Local businesses thanked
Sunday, June 28, 2009
-

The Ridley Water Ice, and Daro Depot were thanked this week, for all their support over the last year. Chief Burke, took some time from his busy schedule to stop in and personally thank the employees of the 2 local businesses. The Ridley Water Ice, assisted the fire company last month, with a fund raiser to help the firefighters in this troubling economy. Firefighters spend several hours selling water ice and ice cream, and where ever else the employees needed it. A percentage of the money raised that day went to the firehouse, to help with the cost of equipment, and other expenses.

Daro Depot also assisted Milmont last month, when Milmont held the Nelson’s BBQ Fundraiser. The BBQ was a huge success, and Chief Burke wanted to thank Dave Daro, for the use of their parking lot. Firefighters brought down fire equipment, and apparatus to show on display, as they helped the Nelson’s Group with the BBQ. Ribs and Chicken was the menu of the day, and at a low cost helped Milmont and Nelson’s to sell out by 3 p.m.

Both businesses were thanked by Chief Burke, and presented a plaque for all of their help. We look forward to working with them in the future, and we appreciate the business they have given us.

Milmont has recently taken delivery of new Motorola 1250 portable radios. These new radios will be outfitted to the apparatus, and allow for each crew member to have a radio. Milmont has also taken delivery of some new nozzles, lock-out tool, traffic cones, hand tools, and fire helmets. Engine 49 has also been getting worked on by Engineer C. Hornberger. Chopper has been working to clean up the diamond plate and tools, bringing the 83 Sutphen back to its classic look. We hope to have the Engine ready and cleaned in time for parade season.

The fire company is also working on some upcoming drills to better train our firefighters. We will be working on car fire drills in the very near future at the training center, as well as a “Forcible Entry Mock-Up” with the help of our friends from Prospect Park Fire Company. Milmont also plans to work closer with Vauclain Fire Company, to make our members more aware of the hazards that they might run into around an accident scene. Technology has come a long way in the last few years, and today’s modern and hybrid cars can come at a cost. Today’s newer cars can hold up to 20 airbags that can go off, even after the power has been secured from the vehicle.

Nelson's BBQ racks em!!
Saturday, May 30, 2009

The Nelsons BBQ was a HUGE success over the weekend. Milmont went out in full force, and worked from 10am until almost 5pm in the Daro Depot parking lot. Milmont and Nelson’s sold out of everything on hand, from the ribs to the chicken. Nelsons offered a full meal of ribs or chicken, with a side dish, and soda. Milmont looks forward to working with Nelson’s again in the very near future. Nelson’s is a big hit in the Delco. area. His home made food, is very well known, and hand prepared just before the sales. We look forward to more successful fundraisers with the Nelson’s group.

Milmont participated in the Upland and Vauclain Memorial Day Parades today. Tower, Engine, Command, and Ambulance 49 headed down to Upland around 8:30 this morning. The Upland parade kicked off, and fire trucks and string bands from all over the area, paraded through Upland. Milmont then headed down to Crum Lynne, and followed Vauclain and Post 777 through the community to the Memorial on Chester Pike for a quick service. The Memorial Service was followed by a parade back to Post 777, where food and refreshments were served. It is important to remember all those who have given their lives so that we may all live freely.
