Thursday, January 12, 2012 11:17 On Thursday January 12th at 11:17am, Tower 49 assisted Company 18 (Folsom) with what was originally given out to the police as a fire alarm at Ridleybrook Apartments 111 W.MacDade Bv. Upon Ridley Police arrival, it was found that the fire alarm sounded due to unattended cooking in "D" building. Along with company 49, those assisting with removal of smoke condition was companies 43 (Holmes),67 (Woodlyn), RIT 45 (Parkside), 62-7 (Vauclain), and Medic Ridley 7. There were no injuries and companies remained on scene for around 40 minutes.
Thursday, January 12, 2012 On January 12th two seperate motor vehicle collisions were reported at the intersection of Milmont Ave and W MacDade Blvd in Milmont Park. A collision of two vehicles occurred at 15:51 where minor injuries were reported. Company 49 was called to provide oil dry for fluids on the highway. Engine 49-2 responded with a full crew . Later that day at 19:14 another two vehicle collision occurred where ambulance 49 under the direction of Matt DiSanto EMT Crew Chief, transported one minor injury to Taylor Hospital for further treatment. Company 49 would like to remind everyone to buckle up your seatbelts.
Saturday, December 24, 2011 23:28 At 11:28 pm on Christmas Eve the 49ers were called to the 200 block of West 7th Ave. for a chimney fire. 49-7, on duty crew, arrived on location with no injuries but did report visible fire coming out from the top of a rear chimney . The initial fire was suppressed by the resident but there was water and smoke damage inside the home. Under the direction of 49-9 firefighters from companies 18 (Folsom), 43 (Holmes), 62 (Vauclain) assisted 49 with further suppression and checked for extension. Crews remained on location for approximately 30 minutes. Medic Ridley 7 was also on location but thankfully their services were not needed.
Saturday, December 17, 2011 This weekend Santa visited the community of Milmont Park and with the help of the members candy canes were given out to the residents young and old. Santa would like to thank those who were "nice" and hooked up Santa's sled with lights and music for all to enjoy.
Saturday, October 8, 2011 On October 8th Engine 49-2 attended the Delaware County Fireman’s Association parade held at the Tinicum Fire Company station 48 in Essington, Pa. Under the direction of Lieutenants Ray Devine and Richard Sullivan, the junior firefighters took 2nd place in the category of 1990 and older engines. They did a great job considering it was their first competition parade as firefighters. At 5:20pm that same day the 49ers were dispatched to a fire alarm in town that turned out to be a false alarm. This same weekend on both October 8th and 9th, 49-7 staffed by Laura Curran, Nancy Sullivan (49-11a), and Amy Jackson (49-11) stood by the 5th annual HEADstrong lacrosse competition to benefit cancer research. At the Sunday standby, the crew (49-11a/49-11) was recruited to act as trainers for Chestnut Hill College and Widener University lacrosse teams. They treated an ankle injury, one player suffering from hyperthermia, and some other minor medical needs. Thankfully, there was no needed transports to the hospital.
Sunday, September 25, 2011 The winner of last month’s apparatus poll was Ambulance 49. This month we are asking everyone to vote for your favorite Fire Movie. Ladder 49 or Backdraft. The “Poll” feature is located on the left tool bar of the website. Winner will be announced next month.
Tuesday, September 6, 2011 Just after 2 O’clock, the company was dispatched to the 700 block of Milmont Ave. for a CO alarm. Engine 49-1, under the command of 49-12A arrived on scene. After checking the residence with the gas detector, the crews found no evidence of CO. The Engine was available from the scene shortly after. Residents are reminded to not only check their smoke alarms for batteries, but any CO detectors as well. The best types of CO detectors on the market are those that have a digital display.
Saturday, September 3, 2011 Around lunch time, the Box Alarm was dropped for the 1000 block of Kedron Ave. in Folsom. A report came into 911 that a small fire was in a bedroom, and the house was being evacuated. Tower 49 responded in with the rest of the assignment. Upon arrival, 18 Command reported a small fire, to be out, and held the assignment to Engine 18. The cause is currently under investigation, but the fire is believed to be caused by a child playing with matches. This is a STRONG reminder of the danger of playing with matches, and that matches and lighters should not be left within the reach of children.
Monday, August 29, 2011 Around 6 O’clock, the company was dispatched for a report of a car fire in the 500 block of Arlington Ave. Upon arrival crews found a small fire in a vehicle in a residence driveway. Crews worked for a few minutes on scene to check the car for any extension, and went available shortly after.
Sunday, August 28, 2011 During the middle of Hurricane Irene, companies were dispatched for a report of a building fire in the 1100 block of Muhlenberg Ave. in Folsom. Due to crews already being tied up on pump outs and service calls, the box brought in companies from 18, 49, 43, 14, 07 and 08. Upon arrival, 18 Command reported a house being struck by lightning. Orders were given to crews to reduce speed. Upon responding, the assignment was held to 18, and crews from 49 returned to assisting residence with service calls and pump outs.
