Sunday, October 4, 2015 The fire company held its annual open house fire prevention day on October 4th. It was a little chilly out , but sunny enough for everyone to have a fun time. This year the company , with the assistance of the Holmes Fire Co.(43) and Vauclain Fire Co. (62) rescue squads, demonstrated how vehicle rescues operations are preformed. Prospect Park Fire Co. (08) also was on hand to held with fire suppression back up. Other events included Collingdale Fire Co. (06) smoke house trailer and other fire companies displayed their apparatus for the community to see. Inside the hall, the members provided music by member and DJ Lisa Parks ,free smoke detectors for residents, as well as food and other giveaways for the kids. The Milmont Fire Company would like to thank all those who attended to make yet another fire prevention a success. Any Milmont Park resident who needs a smoke detector or help in the installation of one, can call the fire house at 610-532-3232 and leave a message or stop by any Tuesday night after 7pm.
Friday, September 25, 2015 The fire company received good news this week. The U.S. Department of Justice made final determination that Chief Engineer Charles P. Hornberger, will be listed as a Public Safety Officer Line of Duty Death and his family will be entitled to the benefits as such. Charlie responded to a fire call on June 30, 2010 and was not feeling well. He returned home and was preparing for work at the 911 center, when he collapsed and was transported to the hospital. As a result, of the incident and medical emergency, Charlie passed in Hospice on July 7, 2010. Last night, after the board meeting, the entire Board of Directors, paraded over on the apparatus, to Charlie's daughter's (Mary Anne (Tom)) house, and presented her with the letter of determination. She was not only surprised but grateful to the fire company for all its support to Charlie and his family.

Saturday, September 19, 2015 21:34 On 9/19 at about 2135hrs after numerous 911 calls, a building box assignment was struck for the 400 block of Ohio Ave. Ridley Township Police, first on scene, an active fire on second floor of a twin home located in town. Crews were met with heavy fire and smoke upon arrival, and shortly after starting to make a fight on the fire, a second alarm was struck. After approximately seven minutes into the fire, evacuation tones were sounded and the companies went into an exterior defensive attack. Once some of the fire was knocked crews then regrouped and pushed back in to fight the stubborn blaze. Great work by all crews on scene. Some assisting companies included 18-Folsom, 43-Holmes, 67-Woodlyn, 12-Eddystone, Medic Ridley 7, R.I.T. 56 from Chester County and Tower 61 Reliance who was covering station 17-Aston Twp. , at the time of the call. 2nd alarm also included 44-7-Springfield EMS and Medic 102. After a long standing career with the Milmont Fire Company as Chief and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Terry Burke Sr. stepped down in to retirement last week. Chief Burke Sr. held numerous positions in the fire company and will continue to help out the company through his retirement.The new chief , voted on by the company, will be former Assisstant Chief Terry (TJ) Burke Jr. TJ is a Lieutenant with the Department of Corrections and lives in Ridley Township with his wife Kim an their two children.The members and officers wish to congratulate the Chief Burke Jr. on his new appointment and the best of luck to both of them.

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 Ambulance 49-7 (EMS Capt. Amy JAckson/EMS Lt. Nancy Sullivan) with help from 12-7 (Eddystone Fire Co. EMS) stood by the 49th Ridley High School graduation exercises on the Phil Marion Field at the high school. Hundreds were in attendance and came out in the heat to watch the class of 2015 graduate. Members of the Milmont Fire Company Ryan Curley and Tyler DiDomizio were among the graduates. The officers and members of Station 49, offer best of luck to them in their future. After graduation was completed, the fire crew mounted up on Tower49 and Engine49-1 and hit the street and headed up to the high school and set up the engine and tower for some deluge gun work and flowed a large amount of water. The crew also worked on ground ladder placement, and raising and lowering techniques.

Charles B. Mullin, 88, a longtime resident of Secane, died at home on May 28, 2015. Mr. Mullin was born in Philadelphia to the late Charles and Alice (nee Stott) Mullin. He served in the Navy as Seamen 2nd Class during World War II. Mr. Mullin was self-employed and owner of Charles B. Mullin Lettering. He was widely known throughout the tri-state area for gold leaf lettering of fire equipment. Mr. Mullin was a paid Assistant Chief for Primos-Secane and Westbrook Park, past president and ladder captain for Cardington Stonehurst Fire Co., as well as a member of the 8th District Board of Director of County Firefighters Association. He enjoyed traveling. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Evalyn L. (nee Palmer) Mullin. He is survived by his sister, Lois A. Cook, two nieces and many friends. This week drill companies from Milmont (Tower, Engine, Ambulance), Folsom (18), and Prospect Park (08) drilled at the Montgomery County Fire Academy. Members from all the companies drilled on R.I.T., fire suppression, hose advancement, search and rescue, as well as other firefighting techniques. The drill lasted about 3 hours. Ambulance 49-7 covered the annual Ridley Township Police Association Safety Picnic on May 11th. Several minor injuries were attended to , but no one required to go to the hospital. The picnic is held every year where Ridley Township elementary school kids participate in fun and games. EMS Captain Amy Jackson and EMS Lt. Nancy Sullivan stood by for any emergencies. Milmont Fire Company EMS had been volunteering their time for years to ensure the safety of those who participate. This year along with all the fun, there was also a K9 demonstration from K9 Officer from Ridley Park Police with his dog Jager, Boeing Fire Company TAC unit, DJ John Saddic provided music, and once again the Philly Phanatic. Special thanks goes out to all the officers of Ridley Township, Eddystone Police, Ridley Township Highway Department, and especially retiring after 30 years of service to Ridley Township, Mark Vonderstuck for making every picnic a success.
